Officials: Petree student dies of bacterial meningitis

A student at Petree Elementary School died today from bacterial meningitis, officials said.

Crystal Robinson died today at the hospital, Bonnie Davis, a spokeswoman at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, said.

Crystal was being treated in the pediatric intensive-care unit.

Theo Helm, a spokesman for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, said that Crystal was a fifth-grader

Test is a little help: Type of meningitis that killed student hasn't been learned

Investigators have not yet determined the form of meningitis that killed a Petree Elementary School fifth-grader Friday.

Crystal Robinson died at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

Tests have ruled out meningococcal meningitis, said Dr. Tim Monroe, the health director for Forsyth County. But there are other forms of meningitis, and the exact form has not yet been determined.
