Possible Hepatitis A transmitted at Olive Garden

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- The Cumberland County Public Health Department issued a warning Monday of the possible transmission of Hepatitis A at a Fayetteville Olive Garden.

The restaurant is located on 234 North McPherson Church Road.
Employees and anyone who visited the Olive Garden anytime on July 25, 26, 28, 29, 31 and Aug. 1, 2 and 8 may have been exposed to Hepatitis A through a restaurant employee.

"It is important that those persons working or visiting the restaurant on these dates receive an injection of Hepatitis A immune globulin or vaccine immediately," said Buck Wilson, health department director.

Exposed individuals from those dates may obtain the immunization through the Cumberland County Public Health Department, 1235 Ramsey Street, at a walk-in clinic starting Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 9 a.m. The walk-in clinic will continue daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until further notice.

People line up for vaccine after possible Hepatitis A infection

FAYETTEVILLE ? More than 1,400 people have received hepatitis vaccinations in Cumberland County since Tuesday.

Health officials urged those who recently ate at the Olive Garden restaurant in Fayetteville to get vaccinated after a worker tested positive for Hepatitis A. Health officials have set up 15 nurses at the health department to administer the vaccine.

Casual diners in North Carolina are flocking to get hepatitis A vaccines after a server at an Olive Garden in Fayetteville told her bosses she tested positive for the virus.

Roughly 2,000 people who ate at the restaurant on one of the eight days in late July and early August when the server was on duty have reportedly already received a vaccine.​

?The most important thing right now is to get anybody that was present in the restaurant during those dates vaccinated,? a local health official told the Fayetteville Observer on Tuesday. ?That?s the No. 1 priority.?​
