Charlotte Hospital Treating Patient with Ebola-like Symptoms

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WCNC)-- Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte says they are treating a patient who is exhibiting symptoms that could possibly be linked to Ebola.

CMC says that while the patient has traveled to one of the African countries associated with Ebola, the likelihood this patient has Ebola is "very low".

CMC says the patient, who has multiple medical issues, received treatment at an outpatient facility before being admitted to CMC.

Doctors at CMC are treating a patient who is showing some signs of Ebola, hospital officials said Tuesday. The patient had been in Liberia, a country that has had issues with an Ebola outbreak.

Hospital officials said at a press conference the patient returned to the U.S. on April 17, and has been monitoring his health since his return. He was at a doctor's office for treatment of another condition Monday, when a doctor noticed he had a fever. At that point, he went to CMC. They say he's had limited contact with the public.

There are about 20 medical officials involved in the patient's care, according to health officials. All are being monitored closely.

Ebola tests are negative for Carolinas Medical Center patient

A man who recently traveled from Liberia is being treated at Carolinas Medical Center for symptoms similar to those caused by Ebola virus infection, but hospital officials said Tuesday night that tests for the disease were negative.

The patient, who had been placed in isolation, will be moved into a regular hospital room to continue treatment, Carolinas HealthCare Systems, CMC?s owner, said in a statement. The man has not been publicly identified...
