ANCHORAGE, Alaska?
Southcentral Alaska residents felt a moderate size earthquake Monday afternoon centered near Anchorage and there was no tsunami danger, according to the Alaska Tsunami Center.

Seismologists' preliminary report of the quake was at magnitude 5.7 and had a depth of 33 miles about 25 miles west of Anchorage.

The quake struck around 4:42 p.m. Alaska time and could be in areas surrounding Southcentral including Palmer and areas in the Mat-Su Valley.

Quake update from USGS. Now saying a magnitude 5.9 and it was centered 24 miles west of Anchorage.

Magnitude 5.8 quake shakes Anchorage, Alaska

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA ? An earthquake has knocked items off shelves in homes around Anchorage, Alaska, but there are no immediate reports of injuries.

The magnitude 5.8 earthquake happened at about 4:45 p.m. Monday. The temblor was centered about 25 miles northwest of Anchorage.

Guy Urban, a geophysicist at the Alaska and West Coast Tsunami Warning Center, say the quake is not expected to generate a tsunami, but it was widely felt throughout much of southcentral Alaska.

John Owens, who lives in East Anchorage, said he felt the rumblings at his house for about 30 seconds. He says, "That was a tumbler, man."
