North Dakotan health officials are warning of an increase in whooping cough cases in Fargo, on the border with Minnesota.
In a release on Monday, Fargo Cass County Public Health said that they have marked 12 cases of pertussis, also known as whooping cough, in the past month. Usually there are only eight cases of the disease in Cass County every year.
“Infants under one year of age are at the highest risk of developing severe breathing problems and life-threatening illness from whooping cough,” said Tracie Newman, MD, the Health Officer for Fargo Cass Public Health in the release. “Babies can get whooping cough from a family member or caregiver who is not aware they have it.”...
