AIZAWL: No case of avian influenza has been reported in Mizoram, a senior official of the state veterinary department said on Friday.

Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Director S Sangnhina told reporters that all samples sent to the High Security Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in Bhopal from different parts of Mizoram, especially from border areas, were found to be negative.

He, however, said elaborate surveillance arrangements were still in place in the border areas. The import of birds, chickens and pig had been stopped as Mizoram is surrounded by Myanmar, Bangladesh and Manipur where bird flu cases were detected.

Some 50 pigs smuggled into the state from Myanmar had been gunned down by police on orders from courts. :tiphat: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...in_Mizoram_Government/articleshow/2289162.cms
