NM Reports First Probable Monkeypox Case
Health department says the patient returned from out-of-state travel

The state health department today reported New Mexico’s first probable case of monkeypox. According to a DOH news release, the patient—who is currently doing well and isolating at home—returned from out-of-state travel and was likely exposed through contact. Initial testing was completed late Friday by the DOH Scientific Laboratory Division and confirmatory testing is being completed at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. SFR has pending questions to DOH regarding the patient’s county of residence and travel location...

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

Monkeypox is now present in 42 of the 50 states in the U.S.

“Today New Mexico has four cases that we have confirmed in our state. We do send them on to the CDC for confirmation it because of the overall low number of cases,” Dr. David Scrase said.

New Mexico's state health leaders say they aren't too concerned about the disease getting out of hand.

“There's a very low probability we have to mount an effort like we have with COVID,” Scrase said...
