NJ reports first West Nile virus death of 2012

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) ? The mosquito-borne West Nile virus, which has been more deadly than ever this year in some parts of the country, has been linked to its first death of the year in New Jersey.

Health officials announced Friday that a 77-year-old Willingboro man died in his home Sunday about two weeks after he developed fever, weakness, and respiratory illness that eventually led to his being hospitalized for a time.

Joseph Coltellaro should have lived for 20 more years. Even at the age of 78, the Williamstown man was healthy and sharp, still driving around, grocery shopping ? often for his 11 children and 27 grandchildren ? and just keeping busy. It wasn?t until he was unknowingly bit by a mosquito carrying the West Nile Virus when everything changed...

5 West Nile Virus Deaths Reported In New Jersey

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) ? New Jersey?s Health Department is reporting five people have died from West Nile virus in the state.

Two deaths occurred in Passaic County and there was one each in Burlington, Gloucester and Ocean counties.

State health officials say 45 cases of the mosquito-borne illness have been reported in people in 16 counties around the state...
