Health officials are urging vigilance after a person infected with measles spent more than five hours in the pediatric emergency room at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital last week.

The potential exposure occurred between 11:30 p.m. Feb. 6 and 4:45 a.m. Feb. 7, according to state and local health departments. No additional cases have been reported, but officials said anyone exposed could develop symptoms as late as Feb. 28.​..

The New Jersey Department of Health (DOH) said a person infected with measles spent hours at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick last week.

The DOH said on Feb. 10 anyone who was in the pediatric emergency department of the hospital from 11:15 p.m. Feb. 6 to 4:45 a.m. Feb. 7 may have been exposed.

Individuals – especially parents, guardians, health care providers, and caregivers – are urged to be aware of the symptoms of this highly contagious virus and to ensure they are up to date with the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) shots, the DOH said.​..

First measles case of the year reported in New Jersey

Health officials in New Jersey are warning folks of possible measles exposure after confirming the state's first case of the year.

The infection was found in a Hudson County resident who recently traveled abroad, NJ.com reported.

People who were at certain locations in mid-April may have been exposed. These include:

Terminal B at Newark Liberty International Airport between 5:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. April 14.
The pediatric emergency department at Hackensack University Medical Center between 11:15 p.m. April 17 and 3:15 a.m. April 18.

Officials say symptoms could show up as late as May 11.​..​
