LAKEWOOD ? Two months after an outbreak was declared over, the measles have returned to Ocean County.

Health officials on Friday said that a third confirmed case of the contagious disease means that authorities are considering this an outbreak.

The earlier outbreak of the measles ? an illness that the United States had declared eradicated in 2000 ? was from October to Jan. 16 with 30 confirmed cases in Ocean County and three in a home in Passaic County. There were no reported deaths. Simultaneous outbreaks were happening in Orthodox Jewish neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Rockland County.

State health officials say the man with the most recent case of measles in Lakewood may have exposed others between March 9 and 14 at these locations:

Congregation Bais Tefilla, 33 E. 8th St.

Beth Medrash Govoha, Bais Yitzchok Hall

Beth Hamedrash Zichron Binyomin, 701 Princeton Ave.

Lake Terrace Hall, 1690 Oak St.

The New Jersey Department of Health announced Thursday that it had identified three more locations where Ocean County residents or visitors were possibly exposed to the measles while out and about on March 10...

...On Thursday, the Department of Health said the state has seen at least seven confirmed cases of the disease this year, five being part of the Ocean County outbreak. The department has identified three new locations where folks could have been exposed to measles on March 10 if they visited:

Tottini Kids Wear, 204 Clifton Ave., Lakewood (between 12 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.)
Clover, 115 Clifton Ave., Lakewood (between 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.)
Kidichic, 251 2nd St, Lakewood (between 1:45 p.m. to 5 p.m.)

The health department asked people who visited any of the Lakewood locations during those times to call their doctor ?immediately to discuss potential exposure and risk of developing the illness."

New Jersey health officials say that a traveler with a confirmed case of the measles may have exposed travelers at Newark Liberty International Airport last month.

The New Jersey Department of Health says that an international traveler from Israel arrived at Terminal C from Tel Aviv on April 16 between 4 a.m. and 8 p.m. Travelers who were inside the terminal at this time may have been exposed.

Officials say that New Jersey residents who were on the sick person?s flight will be notified by their local health department...

According to the health department, a New York resident who has been diagnosed with measles visited the AristaCare Health Services Corporate Office located on Birchwood Avenue in Cranford on May 30.

If you were in Newark Liberty International Airport between May 29 at 5:00 p.m. and May 30 at 3:30 p.m., you may have been exposed to measles and, if infected, could develop symptoms as late as June 20. The individual departed for Quebec, Canada, from Terminal A.
New Jersey residents identified as potentially exposed on the ill individual?s flights will be notified by their local health department. In the event that additional exposures are identified, an update will be provided.

LAKEWOOD ? Measles has returned to Ocean County with a confirmed case and possible exposure to others.

The state Department of Health warned about possible exposure by an individual with measles at the Center for Health Education Medicine and Dentistry (CHEMED) on 1771 Madison Ave. between 1:45 and 6 p.m. Wednesday. The department did not say where the individual lives.

Ocean County has been the center of separate outbreaks in the fall and in the spring. The most recent outbreak was declared over on May 16...

A measles case was confirmed at a Nutley elementary school on Thursday.

Superintendent Dr. Julie Glazer sent an email to parents alerting them to the measles case at Washington School. The case seems to be traced to Sept. 27 as Glazer said any students or staff not present that day are not at risk.
