Situational Update

The New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) is working with Jersey City Department of Health and Human Services to investigate a confirmed case of measles. This individual developed a rash illness on January 19th and had recent international travel. While infectious, the individual potentially exposed persons while visiting the following locations at the dates and times specified:

• Christ Hospital, 176 Palisade Ave, Jersey City, NJ 07306
  • January 20-January 21, between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m.
  • January 22, between 4:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
• PATH Stations: Journal Square and Newport AND
  PATH Train: Journal Square – 33rd St Line
  • January 17, between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
  • January 17, between 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
• Newport Tower, 525 Washington Blvd, Jersey City, NJ 07310
  • January 17, between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.
  • January 18, between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
• Newport Mall, 30 Mall Dr W, Jersey City, NJ 07310
  • January 17, between 12 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
• 145 Harborside, Plaza 2, Jersey City, NJ 07331
  • January 19, between 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
• LabCorp, 600 Pavonia Ave, Jersey City, 07306
  • January 19, between 12:00 p.m.- 2:45 p.m.

  • January 21, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The NJDOH is working with the affected local health departments within NJ to manage the exposures. To date, no cases associated with the exposures occurring in Jersey City have been identified. Persons exposed could develop symptoms as late as February 14th, 2017.
Individuals who might have been exposed are urged to contact their healthcare providers to discuss their exposure and risk of developing illness. Anyone who develops symptoms consistent with measles is urged to call their healthcare provider BEFORE going to the medical office or emergency room so that special arrangements can be made to minimize exposure in the healthcare setting.

North Jersey Baby Diagnosed With Measles: State Health Officials
The 7-month-old infant traveled internationally and may have spread the virus to others.

A 7-month-old baby was diagnosed with measles and may have spread the infectious disease to others, state health officials warn.

The unvaccinated infant may have exposed others to the highly contagious disease sometime between Jan. 17 and 23 while infectious, said state Department of Health Commission Cathleen Bennett.

People exposed to the infant could develop symptoms as late as Feb. 15, Bennett said.

The infant visited the emergency department at St. Joseph's Wayne Hospital Jan. 21 from just before 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Pediatric Emergency Department at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson two days later from 6:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. The child is recovering at home...
