The New York City Health Department on Thursday reported nine more deaths related to swine flu.
The fatalities bring to 47 the total number of deaths linked to the viral strain, which first emerged in the city in April.
The deaths were reported two days after Long Island health officials announced Tuesday that a second Nassau County resident with confirmed swine flu died.
There have been seven H1N1-related deaths on Long Island.

H1N1 (Swine Flu)
In the city, the Health Department declined to make additional comments on the latest cases. The agency didn't release the names or hometowns of the victims, citing patient privacy rights.
The previous death toll was 38.
Most swine flu victims had underlying medical conditions, which make contracting the virus more dangerous, health officials said. Prominent risk factors found among many of the victims include diabetes, asthma and heart disease, officials said.
