Cholera
In the reporting week 2 (9th ? 15th January 2012), no case of cholera was reported. A total of 2 suspected cases of Cholera have so far been recorded between weeks 1 ? 2 2012 with 0 death (Figure 1).
A total of 23,377 cholera cases with 742 deaths and CFR of 3.2% were recorded 2011 in 203 LGAs of 26 States (Figure 2)

Poliomyelitis
In 2011 as at January 13 2012, 57 cases of wild poliovirus (WPV) were recorded in 8 States, (namely Sokoto, kebbi, Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Borno, Zamfara and Katsina) compared to 21 cases in 8 States for the same period in 2010. (Figure. 3 and Table 1).

Measles
In the reporting week 2 2012, 60 suspected cases of measles, 7 deaths with CFR 11.7% were reported from 5 States. So far between weeks 1 ? 2 2012, a total of 101 suspected measles cases, 7 deaths and CFR - 7% have been recorded.
In 2011 a total of 27,737 suspected cases of measles and 194 deaths were recorded with 7,666 confirmed as at 6th January 2012


Lassa Fever
No new case of Lassa fever was reported in the reporting week 2 2012. Outbreaks of Lassa fever have been reported from 7 States between weeks 1 ? 2 2012 with 27 suspected cases, 16 Laboratory confirmed and 9 deaths, CFR 33.3%. Please note that the discrepancy in the number of deaths from the previous week 1 report (i.e. total of 11 deaths in previous report and now total of 9 deaths) was due to an earlier report received from the one of the affected States which was later verified by the FMOH team during the field investigation conducted in the State.

Federal Ministry of Health Weekly Epidemiology Report indicates that between weeks 1-7 2012, a total of 85 suspected cases of Cholera with 2 deaths (CFR 2 4%) have been recorded, while for Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM), a total of 138 suspected cases were reported with 7 deaths (CFR 5 1%).

So far in 2012, a total of 122 suspected measles cases and 16 deaths (CFR, 2 %) have been recorded A total of 455 suspected cases of Lassa fever, 9 Laboratory confirmed and 46 deaths (CFR 11%) have been recorded in 13 States between weeks 1-7 2012.

So far in 2012, a total of 1454 suspected measles cases and 17 deaths (CFR, 2.0%) have been recorded. A total of 517 suspected cases of Lassa fever, 93 Laboratory confirmed and 51 deaths (CFR 10.0%) have been recorded in 15 States as at 2nd March 2012. Three (3) wild polio virus cases have been recorded in 2012. In 2011, Nigeria recorded 62 wild polio virus (WPV) cases in 8 States with 35 vaccine derived polio virus (cVDPV2) in 10 States.

The Federal Ministry of Health had, on the 11th November 2011, celebrated 3 consecutive years of zero reporting of Guinea Worm Disease in Nigeria (Figure 6)

Federal Ministry of Health Weekly Epidemiology Report indicates that between weeks 1- 11 2012, a total of 162 suspected cases of Cholera with 4 deaths (CFR 2.5%) have been recorded, while for Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM), a total of 420 suspected cases were reported with 25 deaths (CFR 6.0%) and 13 Laboratory confirmed. So far in 2012, a total of 2907 suspected measles cases and 47 deaths (CFR, 1.6%) have been recorded.

A total of 675 suspected cases of Lassa fever have been reported from 19 States as at 23 rd March 2012 with 110 Laboratory confirmed and 72 deaths (CFR 10.7%). Twelve (12) wild polio virus cases have so far been recorded in 2012. In 2011, Nigeria recorded 62 wild polio virus (WPV) cases in 8 States with 35 vaccine derived polio virus (cVDPV2) in 10 States.

No case of Guinea worm disease has been recorded between weeks 1-11 2012 and Nigeria had celebrated 3 consecutive years of Zero reporting of Guinea Worm Disease in the country in 2011.

Federal Ministry of Health Weekly Epidemiology Report a total of 714 suspected cases of Lassa fever have been reported from 19 States as at 23 rd March 2012 with 110 Laboratory confirmed and 75 deaths (CFR 10.5%).

So far in 2012 as at 23rd March a total of 14 Wild Polio Virus (WPV) have been recorded. Between weeks 1- 12 2012, 175 suspected cases of Cholera with 4 deaths (CFR 2.3%) have been recorded, while for Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM), a total of 482 suspected cases were reported with 28 deaths (CFR 6.0%) and 13 Laboratory confirmed.

So far in 2012, a total of 3378 suspected measles cases and 56 deaths (CFR, 1.7%) have been recorded. No case of Guinea worm disease has been recorded between weeks 1 ? 12 2012.

Federal Ministry of Health Weekly Epidemiology Report indicates that a total of 818 suspected cases of Lassa fever have been reported from 19 States as at 13th April 2012 with 131 Laboratory confirmed and 84 deaths (CFR 10.3%).

So far in 2012 as at 6th April a total of 18 Wild Polio Virus (WPV) have been recorded in 8 States. Between weeks 1- 14 2012, 197 suspected cases of Cholera with 4 deaths (CFR 2.0%) have been recorded, while for Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM), a total of 615 suspected cases were reported with 39 deaths (CFR 6.3%) and 20 Laboratory confirmed. So far in 2012, a total of 4522 suspected measles cases and 79 deaths (CFR, 1.75%) have been recorded. No case of Guinea worm disease has been recorded between weeks 1 ? 14 2012.

Federal Ministry of Health Weekly Epidemiology Report indicates that a total of 855 suspected cases of Lassa fever have been reported from 21 States as at 20th April 2012 with 136 Laboratory confirmed and 87 deaths (CFR 10.2%).

So far in 2012 as at 13th April a total of 20 Wild Polio Virus (WPV) have been recorded in 8 States. Between weeks 1- 15 2012, 212 suspected cases of Cholera with 4 deaths (CFR 2.0%) have been recorded, while for Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM), a total of 678 suspected cases were reported with 45 deaths (CFR 6.3%) and 22 Laboratory confirmed. So far in 2012, a total of 4863 suspected measles cases and 81 deaths (CFR, 1.67%) have been recorded. No case of Guinea worm disease has been recorded between weeks 1-15 2012.

3.1. A total of 721 suspected CSM cases and 47 deaths (CFR, 6.6%) have been recorded between
weeks 1 ? 16 2012, (Figure 4). In the reporting week 16 (2012), 32 suspected cases of CSM were
reported with 1 deaths (Table 3)
3.2. Between wk 10 ? wk 14 three LGAs crossed either alert or epidemic threshold. No LGA
crossed the alert/epidemic threshold in wk 16.
3.3. Twenty two (22) cases have so far been laboratory confirmed with W135 identified in 4
States namely Gombe, Jigawa, Taraba and Zamfara States.

4.1. In the reporting week 15 (16th ? 22nd April 2012), 8 suspected cases of cholera were reported
with 0 death (Table 4). A total of 220 suspected cases of Cholera have so far been recorded
between weeks 1 ? 16, 2012 with 4 deaths, CFR 2.0%

5.1. In the reporting week 16 (2012), 193 suspected cases of measles and 1 death were reported
from 24 States. So far between weeks 1 ? 16 2012, a total of 5104 suspected measles cases,

A total of 866 suspected cases of Lassa fever have been reported from 21 States as at 4th May 2012 with 143 Laboratory confirmed and 92 deaths (CFR 10.6%).

So far in 2012 as at 27th April a total of 27 Wild Polio Virus (WPV) have been recorded in 10 States. Between weeks 1- 17 2012, 229 suspected cases of Cholera with 4 deaths (CFR 1.75%) have been recorded, while for Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM), a total of 748 suspected cases were reported with 48 deaths (CFR 6.42%) and 22 Laboratory confirmed.

So far in 2012, a total of 5385 suspected measles cases and 83 deaths (CFR, 1.54%) have been recorded. No case of Guinea worm disease has been recorded between weeks 1 ? 17 2012.

In 2012 as at 6th July, a total of 49 Wild Polio Virus (WPV) and one circulating Vaccine-derived Polio Virus (cVDPV2) were recorded in 10 States.

As at 13th July 2012, a total of 933 suspected cases of Lassa fever with 147 laboratory confirmed and 93 deaths (CFR 9.97%) were reported from 23 States. Between weeks 1- 27 2012, 322 suspected cases of Cholera and 4 deaths (CFR 1.24%) were reported, while for Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM), a total of 917 suspected cases with 9 laboratory-confirmed and 57 deaths (CFR 6.22%) were reported.

In 2012 (weeks 1-27), a total of 7371 suspected measles cases, 466 laboratory-confirmed and 102 deaths (CFR, 1.38%) were reported. No case of Guinea worm disease was recorded between weeks 1 ? 27 2012.

Weekly Epidemiology Report update: Week 28 as at 20th June 2012 In 2012 as at 13th July, a total of 52 Wild Polio Virus (WPV) and one circulating Vaccine-derived Polio Virus (cVDPV2) were recorded in 10 States.

As at 20th July 2012, a total of 933 suspected cases of Lassa fever with 147 laboratory-confirmed and 93 deaths (CFR 9.97%) were reported from 23 States. Between weeks 1- 28 2012, 335 suspected cases of Cholera and 4 deaths (CFR 1.19%) were reported, while for Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM), a total of 922 suspected cases with 9 laboratory-confirmed and 57 deaths (CFR 6.18%) were reported.

In 2012 (weeks 1-28), a total of 7434 suspected measles cases, 466 laboratory-confirmed and 102 deaths (CFR, 1.37%) were reported. No case of Guinea worm disease was recorded between weeks 1 ? 28 2012. click here
