LAGOS, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria's health authorities on Sunday night confirmed 86 new cases of COVID-19, the highest daily increase since the west African country reported its first case on Feb. 27, bringing the total to 627.

Figures from the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) show the epidemic has spread faster in the country recently, with daily cases staying at or exceeding 30 for the last six days in a row.

So far, Nigeria has recorded 21 deaths, and 170 persons have been discharged from hospitalization after recovery...

Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State has confirmed nine new cases of COVID-19 in the state. Masari made this known while briefing newsmen on Sunday in Katsina.

“We sent samples of 287 suspected persons to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) for screening.

2 hours agoLagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, implored owners of bodies in the state mortuaries to pick them for burial in line with the protocol established in the management of COVID-19 or risk mass burial by the government. He urged them to maintain social distancing, wear nose masks during the burial while attendance must not be more than 20.

The governor also said the wearing of nosemasks in any public gathering and by those on essential services in the state is now compulsory.

Speaking at his COVID-19 Update at the State House, Sanwo-Olu urged private sector and well meaning Lagosians to patronise local fashion designers for the production of nose masks for their staff and residents.
