Coronavirus: locked down Lagos with 61% of Nigeria's 131 cases

Nigeria’s commercial hub of Lagos is at the center of the country’s coronavirus combat. Lagos has the highest number of confirmed cases (as at March 29) and the state government has continued to roll out multiple measures to deal with the disease.

Lagos has in the past weeks suspended schools across the state – be they public or private, 70% of state government workers were asked to stay at home last week with the most recent move being a week’s closure of shops and markets.

The state, with a population of over 20 million, has also been a major beneficiary of coronavirus intervention funds. Governor Baba Jide Sawo-Olu late last week announced a stimulus package to benefit poor people....

Nigeria’s COVID-19 Cases Climb to 184

Nigeria has recorded 10 new cases of COVID-19 bribging the total number of confirmed case to 184..

Announcing Thursday, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said of the 10 new confirmed cases, seven were from Lagos while three were from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Of the 184 cases, 162 are currently being managed, 20 have been discharged while two have died...

Nigerian man shot dead for flouting virus lockdown
  • A Nigerian man has been shot dead for allegedly flouting a stay-at-home order aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus, police and a lawmaker said on Friday.
  • Nigeria has introduced a raft of measures, including lockdowns of major cities, to try to contain the virus, which has infected 184 people, two of them fatally.
  • Joseph Pessu, a resident of the oil city of Warri in the southern state of Delta, was killed on Thursday by a soldier deployed to enforce the lockdown, the sources said.

...The spread of novel Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) in Nigeria has continued to record rapid increase as the latest statistics provided by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control show that there are 190 confirmed cases.

On the 3rd of April 2020, six(6) new confirmed cases of COVID-19 recorded in Nigeria bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 190.

Till date, one hundred and ninety (190) cases have been confirmed, twenty(20) cases have been discharged and two deaths from COVID-19 recorded in Nigeria...

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, reported that twenty-two new cases of COVID19 were recorded in Nigeria on April 8: The breakdown showed 15 in Lagos, 4 in the FCT, 2 in Bauchi, 1 in Edo State. Consequently the national tally stands at 276.

Earlier in the day, a 15-member Chinese medical team arrived in the country to help in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. There were received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in the capital Abuja.

Their arrival had been the subject of contention by the Nigeria Medical Association, which argued that the country had enough medics and did not need overseas assistance.

But the health minister during a meeting with leader of rge lower house of the national assembly stressed that the medics were experts who were on the frontline of China’s coronavirus fight and that they came with a special skill set.

An aide to the president disclosed that the entire team had been quarantined for 14-day period before they begin their operation in the country.

April 8: Court orders quarantine for joggers plus community service


A Magistrate Court in Lagos has sentenced over 30 lockdown flouters to fourteen-day quarantine and a month community service. Lagos is currently under a lockdown imposed by the federal government to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The group of 34 persons were arrested on Wednesday whiles participating in fitness exercise along a major expressway. The Lagos State government has also banned gatherings that exceed 20 people.

The court subsequently convicted them on a charge of working out in a group larger that 20 persons. They are to be quarantined at the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Yaba or any government assigned facility, the ruling said.

Three of the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge. As of April 8 midday GMT, Nigeria has confirmed 254 coronavirus cases, 130 of which were in Lagos. 44 patients have since been discharged while five deaths have been recorded.

ABUJA, April 12 (Xinhua) - The number of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria has risen to 318, with 13 new cases confirmed Saturday evening, health officials said.

Some 70 cases have recovered, and a total of ten deaths have been recorded to date in the country, said the Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC) which made the update in a statement.

The pandemic has spread to a total of 19 of the 36 states in this highly populated African country.

The majority of active cases are in stable condition, according to the NCDC.

The local center for disease control said two new laboratories had been activated in the country for COVID-19 testing. This brings the number of laboratories to 11.

A total of 19 states in Nigeria are affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The country has, to date, more than 323 cases of contamination.

Nigeria registered five (05) new positive cases with coronavirus on Sunday April 12, 2020. A total of 323 confirmed cases of covid-19 were reported in Nigeria at 9:10 p.m. on April 12. 85 people have been cured and 10 deaths have been recorded since the onset of this disease.

The five (05) new cases registered were reported as follows: two (02) in Lagos, two (02) in Kwara and one (01) in Katsina. The 19 affected states in the country are as follows:

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed 34 new cases of coronavirus in the country, via its Twitter account, late at night on Wednesday, April 15, 2020.

At least 20 states are affected by the coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria. On Wednesday, as it drew up its daily report, the Nigeria Center for Disease (NCDC) reported 34 new cases registered in Nigerian territory. In total, the country now has 407 cases of covid-19 infection, 128 cured and 12 deaths.

According to the NCDC, 18 of the new cases were recorded in Lagos, 12 in Kano, 2 in Katsina, 1 in Delta and 1 in Niger. “Thirty-four new cases of COVID-19 have been reported as follows: 18 Lagos, 12 in Kano, 2 in Katsina, 1 in Delta, 1 in Niger. At 11:20 p.m. on April 15, 407 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported in Nigeria, 128 were released with 12 dead, "the agency said, via its Twitter account.
