Cholera kills 18 in northern Nigeria: officials

KANO, Nigeria ? A fresh cholera outbreak has killed 18 people in northern Nigeria's Bauchi state in the past week, officials said Tuesday, in the latest epidemic to ravage the region during the rainy season.

They said infections spread across four districts of the state, with the worst-hit being Warju council area, which recorded 10 deaths...

New outbreak kills six as cholera spreads in Nigeria

KANO, Nigeria ? A fresh cholera outbreak in northern Nigeria has killed at least six people, raising the overall toll in the country to more than over 200 in recent months, officials said Friday.

The latest outbreak was recorded in the Kebbi state town of Koko where at least 182 cholera cases were recorded in the past two weeks, the state's health commissioner Shehu Sambawa said.

"We have recorded six deaths from cholera in Koko in the past two weeks that infected 182 people," Sambawa said.

Around 70 people have died of cholera in under two months in the state...

1. Update on Cholera situation as at 16th September 2011

1.1. In the reporting week 36 (5th ? 11th September 2011),
769 cases, 39 deaths were reported from 34 LGAs in 9
States (Table 1)
1.2. A total of 18,593 cholera cases with 590 deaths and CFR
of 3,17% have so far been recorded between weeks 1-36
2011 in 171 LGAs of 25 States (Figure 1)
1.3. Case Management with Health education activities are
ongoing in all affected areas/communities
1.4. Medicines and other supplies have been distributed to
all Cholera affected States by the FMOH
