​Residents of Malabo in Fufore Local Government of Adamawa have raised concern over the outbreak of a strange ailment affecting body parts and causing severe pain among victims.

Some patients who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Malabo on Friday, said that the disease usually begins like a boil, later bursts, and gradually eats up the flesh, damaging bones in the affected area.

Mrs Phibi Sabo, said she had been battling the ailment for weeks.

“It started like a boil with pains, later got swollen and burst, then began to eat up the flesh on my leg, damaging the bones and causing serious pain.

“This has left me with an open wound. I can’t explain what is happening to me, though I have visited the hospital and received medication, ” Sabo said.

She appealed for government support, pointing out that many patients can no longer do their daily activities or support their families.

“Please, we want government assistance before our entire community gets affected,” Sabo cried out.

She stressed the need for the government to investigate the cause of the ailment and provide relief materials for affected households.​..

...Confirming the development, Alhaji Aliyu Hammawa, the District Head of Malabo, said no fewer than 30 persons had been affected.

He said eight victims were currently receiving treatment at the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital (MAUTH),Yola, while others were being treated in the community health facility.​...

Adamawa State government has confirmed the death of eight persons following a suspected Buruli ulcer outbreak in Malabu community, Fufore Local Government Area.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Felix Tangwami, disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday in Yola.

He said the government is deeply concerned, noting that some victims are currently receiving treatment at the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, Yola.

Tangwami revealed that samples have already been collected and dispatched to the National Reference Laboratory for further testing.​..

​A suspected outbreak of Buruli ulcer, a debilitating and potentially deadly skin disease, has affected more than 50 residents in Malabu, a rural community in Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The disease, which has lingered in the area for nearly two years, has seen a significant spike in cases over the past three months, prompting concern among health authorities and local leaders.

Buruli ulcer is caused by Mycobacterium ulcerans, a bacterium that destroys skin and soft tissue, leading to large ulcers, disability, and in some cases, death.​..

23 Adamawa residents hospitalized after skin disease outbreak spreads

At least twenty-three residents have been hospitalised following a fresh outbreak of a rare, flesh-eating skin disease that is rapidly spreading in parts of Adamawa State.

The infection, suspected to be Buruli ulcer, has left several victims with deep, painful wounds and raised renewed fears of a public health emergency.

As gathered, the patients include women and children, many of whom are battling severe lesions consistent with the symptoms of the disease.

The new outbreak reportedly struck Malabu District in Fufore Local Government Area, the same community hit by a similar epidemic just weeks ago.

In September, at least eight people were reported to have died from the suspected disease in the same area.​..
