The residents of a slum settlement in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Saburi 1, claim that 38 people died suddenly after complaining of headache and fever.
The Daily Sun also reports that a 14 year old girl, Mariam Mustapha died at the weekend after complaining of the same symptoms.
Reports say Ms Salome Maikalfi, a nurse who spoke about the incidents, said it is a spiritual matter.
Some resident of the area also claim the spirit of the land is angry because the burial ground in the community was sold to individuals who want to build private properties on them.
The nurse said ?What we hear is that somebody will complain of headache; they will go to a local drug dealer and buy medicine. None of them went to the hospital, but, before you knew it, the person would die within two days.

They said victims would complain of headache or fever and possi?bly take medication from the patent medicine dealers, and the next you will hear is that they have died.

When this newspaper vis?ited one of the private clinics there to seek the opinion of the medical personnel on the strange deaths, since there is no public healthcare facility in the area, a nurse, Ms Sa?lome Maikalfi, who would not want the name of the medical facility mentioned, said the deaths were not or?dinary.

Another resident, Bless?ing Sunday, who operates a food kiosk said they were still waiting for the outcome of the visit of the FCTA of?ficials ?who came and even tested the water in the area.

?They came here two times in February, and, till now no result. We didn?t hear anything from anybody. I can?t tell whether anybody cares about us again; you can see that the population of the community has reduced, many people have left, those of us remaining are in fear of what will happen next,? she said.

When Daily Sun visited the palace of the Dankaci Saburi 1, Alhaji Muham?mad Yamwawo, he spoke through an interpreter and confirmed that the commu?nity recently recorded mul?tiple deaths, but refused to comment on the allegation of sale of burial ground.

A yet to be identified dis?ease which broke out in Saburi has report?edly killed about 37 residents of Saburi-1 community of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) in the FCT. The latest incident was that of a fifteen year old Maryam Mustapha.



The late Maryam, prior to her death resided at the An?gwan Masalachi area was brought into the community about three months ago by her parents, who had just re?located from another part of the Federal Capital Territory.



Confirming the death to The AUTHORITY at the village, the mother of the deceased, Amina Mustapha said she died after she complained of stom?ach ache which resulted to brief purging and later died in the early hour of last Friday.

According to her, the late Maryam had never com?plained of any pain or sick?ness prior to that which took her life. She linked the death to the previous deaths at the community which according to her had claimed many lives since from February 13, when it started till date.
