Cholera: A total of 96 deaths to week 37
The cumulative reported cases at the Tahoua region reached 304 cases which
11 deaths as of September 16. At week 37 (from 10 to 16 September 2012)
health district reported 21 Birnin Konni new cases without death while the
Madaoua reported nine new cases of cholera with 1 death. In the same period,
Tillab?ri region (West) also continues to report new cases of cholera;
179 new cases / deaths against 180 cases 3/2 deaths in 104 cases and S36 / 3 deaths in
S35. Located along the River Niger, Tillaberi remains the most affected by
the epidemic with 4151 cas/80d?c?s since the beginning of the year. The main focus of
this disease are in the districts along the river, it is Tillab?ry
(2645 cas/38 death), Tera (996 cas/31 death), Kollo (427 cases / 8 deaths) and Say (41
cases / 1 death). Ouallam district has notified 42 cases / 2 deaths. The accumulation of all cases
the country is 4503 including 96 deaths.

During week 36, there was a significant decrease in the number of malnourished both moderates
(101 against 160 at week 35) at the level of severe where forty-nine cases were registered against 118
cases in week 35.
Nevertheless, there is a peak in malaria cases with 2 deaths in 1319 to Week 36 against 630 cases
zero deaths for the previous week. Health districts and Agadez Tchiroz?rine experienced the
large numbers with 631 and 589 cases respectively. So far only one case of meningitis Agadez commune and 8
bloody diarrhea Tchiroz?rine including 6 and 2 were recorded in Arlit.

According to the Regional Director of Public Health (PRSP), 39,523 malaria cases with 44 deaths were recorded
during week 36 (S36) of the year 2012, against an accumulation of 26 093 cases and 23 deaths in the same period
in 2011. The upward trend of registered cases does not flex in the region of Diffa.
For other notifiable diseases such as yellow fever, measles, whooping cough, any
have been reported in week 36 of the year 2012, as the same period in 2011.
About malnutrition (moderate and severe), the number of recorded cases is still rising in training
health statistics from the PRSP. Thus, during week 36 of the year 2012, 16,427
cases of moderate malnutrition and 0 deaths have been registered against 12 920 cases and 0 deaths in 2011 to the same period.
For severe malnutrition, it is recorded in the same period, 5763 cases with 16 deaths in 2012 against
4596 cases with 10 deaths in 2011.

System Release of Health Information System (SPIS) for the Dosso region, reported that 33,878 cases of
moderate malnutrition, including 2 deaths occur in the weeks 1-36 of 2012 against 26,796 cases
3 deaths in 2011 for the same period. For severe malnutrition, it is recorded in the same period, 12,876
cases with 6 deaths in 2012 and 11 318 cases in 2011 to 20 deaths.
The number of cases of measles, meningitis and whooping cough recorded in the region of the SPIS week
1-36 of 2012 were respectively 250 cases and 3 deaths, 36 cases and 8 deaths and 30 cases 0 deaths.
In the same period in 2011, it is recorded less measles cases (190 cases in 2 deaths), but
cases of meningitis (145 cases for 15 deaths) and whooping cough (49 cases).
The number of cases of malaria recorded in the health districts are increasing. It is 348 214
cases and 275 deaths in 2012 of the week 1-36 against 276,949 cases and 184 deaths in the same period in 2011.

According to the Department of Health Information Program (SPIS) of the Regional
of Public Health (PRSP), 3159 cases of moderate malnutrition for any deaths were
recorded in week 36 against no deaths in 5151 to week 35, a decrease
1992 cases. The severely malnourished also decreased 875 cases from 3768 cases
weekdays from 35 to 2893 in week 36. The number of deaths has also decreased from 19 to 10
case. Departments Guidan Roumdji, Dakoro and Mayahi record the greatest
numbers of cases of moderate malnutrition respectively 738, 732 and 709. For which
of severe malnutrition, departments and Guidan Roumji Dakoro and Community
Urban Maradi have the largest numbers of cases respectively 777.408 and 553. In comparison with 2011,
week 36 of the year 2012 recorded more than 3,159 cases with moderate malnutrition in 2839 against the same week
in 2011. The number of severely malnourished is also higher in week 36 of 2012, 2893
cases against 2201. In terms of cumulative since the beginning of the year, at the same time, 2012 saw more
of 18,288 moderately malnourished with no deaths case against 16,506 cases in 2011 to 2 deaths. In malnourished

week 36 against 44,182 cases with 90 deaths the previous week. The number of cases
decreased in 2952 and the deaths of 20 cases in week 36. The number of pregnant women
remained almost unchanged at 819 against 818 in week 35 with no deaths.
Regarding nutritional status, the SPIS recorded 2037 cases of moderate malnutrition in week 36, a
slight decrease from 18 cases in week 35 who had registered 2055 cases. Against by the severely malnourished
increased by 101 cases from 1272 cases with 17 deaths during the week from 35 to 1373 cases in 11 deaths
in week 36. Accruals compared to 2011 and 2012 to the same period show that the year 2012
has more cases of malnutrition as severe (35,021 cases and 205 deaths) and moderate (64 160 with 8 deaths)
against respectively 32 409 and 41 152 deaths to 345 for 14 deaths in 2011.

against malnutrition led by HKI. The objective of this program is to improve the quality of services provided
health workers and community volunteers in the field of prevention and treatment of malnutrition.
