(COVID-19) Niger has 655 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including seven new cases

Niger registered seven new cases of COVID-19 infection on Monday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 655, the Nigerien ministry of health said in a statement quoted on Nigerien public television Monday evening.

All seven new positive cases, including six men, are from the Niamey region.

To date, 655 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the country, among whom 511 are being treated, 124 have left cured, and 20 have died, the statement said.

"The health of the patients in care is stable," said the ministry.

The first confirmed case in the country was reported on March 19 and the first death from the new coronavirus recorded on March 24.

NIAMEY, April 22 (Xinhua) - In Niger, the number of confirmed positive cases for COVID-19 has dropped since April 11, the government said on Wednesday in a radio and television statement after examining the situation of measures taken in the as part of the pandemic response, in the Council of Ministers.

"The evolution of the pandemic is characterized by a gradual increase ranging from one to 40 confirmed positive cases from March 19 to April 1, a relative decrease to 22 cases on April 4, then a rise reaching a maximum of 68 cases recorded on April 11, "according to the government, rejoicing that since that date," the number of cases has dropped again to 2 at the date of April 21 last ".

However, he said, "this should not lower vigilance. Respect for all measures taken by the government is necessary to stop the spread of this pandemic."

With regard to the capacity for screening and treatment, the government says it is "doing everything to ensure the availability of tests, means of protection and drugs of the treatment protocol".

"The hospitalization capacity is also being reinforced, (as well as) the prevention and the control of the infection, the operations of disinfection of the places of contact are in progress and will continue", affirmed the press release .

In addition to the existing measures, the Council of Ministers has taken other complementary measures, in particular the strengthening of control measures with regard to the isolation of the city of Niamey and the relaxation of the curfew hours in the capital which are now set from 9 p.m. (8 p.m. GMT) to 5 a.m. (4 a.m. GMT).

As a reminder, according to an official report made public on Wednesday by the Nigerien Ministry of Health, 662 patients were declared positive for COVID-19, among which 447 are being treated and 193 have left cured, while 22 have died.

Niger confirmed 04 new Covid-19 positive cases on Wednesday April 29, 2020. Of the 04 positive cases, three (03) cases are from the Zinder region, and one (01) from the Niamey region. This brings to 713 the total number of patients suffering from this disease and cared for in the country while the number of people declared cured amounted to 435, 246 cases in the course of treatment. Covid-19 in Niger: schools open from June 1

The resumption of classes in schools in Niger, suspended on March 20 due to the Covid-19, will take place on June 1 throughout the country, it was announced by government sources.

As a reminder, in order to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the country, the Nigerien authorities had decided, among other measures, to close schools and universities throughout the country.

The government announced on May 1 the gradual lifting of certain measures, including the prohibition of access to places of worship and the closure of educational establishments, from June 1 next "if the downward trend observed continues " As of June 12, 2020, Niger has 832 confirmed cases of Covid-19 including 637 cured and 46 deaths.
