Increase in Dengue Cases in Nicaragua

Nicaragua faces a worrying increase in dengue cases, with 635 confirmed cases and 7,885 suspected cases registered in the last week, according to the Ministry of Health report. The disease continues to spread in the country, raising public health concerns.

Epidemiology and cases

In the last 7 days, confirmed cases of dengue increased by 18.2%, going from 537 to 635 cases. Suspected cases also increased by 18.5%, from 6,655 to 7,885. Although no cumulative data for the entire year or information on deaths have been provided, the figures suggest an alarming situation.

According to PAHO, as of September 16, Nicaragua registered 94,576 suspected cases of dengue, the highest number in Central America. Confirmed cases were 2,797, with 12 classified as severe dengue. PAHO issued a health alert due to the increase in cases in the region and asked governments to review response plans.

Nicaragua faces a public health crisis with a high number of dengue cases. Authorities must take urgent measures to contain the spread of the disease, including eliminating mosquito breeding sites and raising public awareness about the importance of prevention. International collaboration and strengthening anti-epidemic actions are essential to address this critical situation.
