Health-Care Personnel - United States, April-May, 2009."

Not up yet, But, you can go to the site and click the link for 'audio' only, as you were just listening in to the live podcast. It should still be there. It's usually available that way until they post a link to the recording.

isn't it reasonable to assume that we will get a picture as in NY
or Boston in other cities too ? Most are just not so far yet,
but they are not immune yet either.

The 7% was from a poll covering 1.May-20.May only.
So we might well have 20-30% infected in New York, or not ?
There should be estimates by now.

By including obesity in the list of underlying conditions, it's just included 25% of the otherwise-healthy US population as having underlying conditions.

Obesity: Not traditionally recognized as raising one's risk from flu, obesity is on the table as a potential complicating factor with swine flu. Anecdotally doctors treating patients say they are seeing more obese people among the severe cases. Some say it's just the morbidly obese, others say even people 20 or 30 pounds overweight seem harder hit. Experts are watching, but a link hasn't been confirmed.

Not only do we have this disturbing trend of "After The Fact" editing, we've also got a situation where the "Definition" of underlying conditions is getting stretched in pretty ludicrous ways. It's almost becoming a waste of time to comment on this. I think that the only thing that COULD force a change in reporting behaviour - is for this to get to the point that mainstream media realy takes off with the story. We simply do not have any "in your face let's dig for the facts journalists" around anymore. The "New & Improved Media" just wants to make the deadline and collect a paycheck nowadays it seems.

What I wouldn't give to have 15 minutes of one on one with some of these officials - tied to a chair and being broadcast live! Anyone with half the facts, and a highschool level of intelligence could ask questions that would make these peoples heads spin as they would stammer and babbled trying to keep their spin straight.

Alas - the Old Guard of the Media has passed - and the flame of the torchbearers of truth extinguished.

Sadly, I agree with you Mountains Voice. No sooner does some story (any story) hit the net and you have every media source repeating the same "news".
True investigative journalists are becomging an endangered species.

The continual stretch of what constitutes an underlying condition and frequent editing of facts before release renders much of our ability to monitor useless.
In my opinion, our best bet is the collective reports, experts who are active here and use of our "gut" feelings to determine if and when things are becoming more serious.

I think most of us expected more from our agencies and media. I know I did.
