The Government is banning indoor gatherings of more than 100 people as it steps up its fight on coronavirus.

The new advice does not apply to schools, universities, workplaces, supermarkets, or public transport.

Those who breach the public health order could face a prison term of six months and a fine of up to $4000.

I teach a class of 7-8 year old with up to 3 teacher aids. 31 of us in a regular classroom for hours at a time.

1.5 m social distancing? HA. 5-50cm AT BEST.

schools would close where there were positive tests to conduct contact tracing,

but schools would not be closed generally without a widespread community transmission.

This was the model that had been adopted in Singapore and Taiwan, where transmission of Covid-19 had been slowed.

Auckland's 55 public libraries, 38 recreation centres and art galleries, and 245 other venues, affecting more than 2000 staff.

Some council-run public attractions will remain open, such as Auckland Zoo, due to it being open air.

The University of Auckland will suspend teaching across its campuses next week because of the coronavirus outbreak.

In-class tests scheduled for next week will be postponed and replaced with off-campus assessment exercises
