Two dead from leptospirosis outbreak in New Caledonia

Two people have died in New Caledonia over the past few days as a result of a post-cyclone outbreak of leptospirosis, a disease transmitted by animal urine.

Oceania Flash reports that the two victims are a seventeen-year-old male and a fifty-seven-year old woman, who could not be saved after they belatedly sought medical attention.

A third person has died in New Caledonia as a result of a post-cyclone outbreak of leptospirosis, a disease transmitted by animal urine.

Patrick Decloitre says about 30 people have been admitted to hospital with symptoms of leptospirosis since the beginning of January, mostly in the wake of Cyclone Vania.

Fifth leptospirosis fatality in New Caledonia this year

Another person has died of leptospirosis in New Caledonia, bringing the number of fatalities from the disease thsi year to five.
