Climate change is to blame for the deterioration of one of New Zealand's iconic mountains according to a new report.

Mt Taranaki in Egmont National Park has been suffering from severe erosion for the past decade with climate change is producing more major storms on the upper slopes.

The Stony River catchment on the mountain's south west side is one of the worst hit areas.
