Answers being sought for sick students

Victor, N.Y. ? It?s literally been a gut-wrenching couple of days for a number of Victor Senior High School students who reported severe gastrointestinal symptoms over the weekend and through Monday. Parents? reports have led to a collaborative investigation by the New York State Department of Health, Ontario County Public Health Department and Victor school administrators into the possible cause.

While parents initially pointed to food poisoning, the Ontario County Health Department said it's more likely that students are suffering from a norovirus, which causes symptoms similar to food poisoning.

?The Public Health Department has not received any confirmed reports of food poisoning related to the school district," Santiago-Marullo said in a written notification to parents. ?They did indicate that there are reports of the Norovirus Infection in the area. This gastrointestinal virus shares many of the symptoms of food poisoning.?
