New York DOH Website Update?

JimO

Well-known member
The NY DOH website is reporting only confirmed and probable cases. They do not report hospitalizations or deaths. The latest update is through July 3rd. I called the toll free number and they referred me to my local health department (which isn't in NY). Any ideas on how to get current state totals?

Re: New York DOH Website Update?

you could check the individual county websites (tedious) but not all of them are reporting individually, some will just refer you back to the NYS DOH website.

or you could toss a couple of dice, which might give you a more accurate number.

this is just a guess but I think NY State is following the WHO recommendations to "stop testing". State numbers were being religiously updated Monday-Friday until July 3, and now nothing for 12 days. seems odd.

It also seems odd that they don't report the number of deaths.

I think New York started the trend of not announcing deaths but simply listing that they occurred (not in all cases, of course, some received public announcements). My contention is those were deaths of people who had no underlying condition of any kind. Perhaps stopping reporting is another step at hiding information.

:)

yes isn't it? that's why I track them here

U.S. Fatalities thread has the most current numbers for NY, I've been waiting for the NYS DOH case numbers to be updated. Guess I'll keep waiting then.

Re: New York DOH Website Update?

if they are thinking of using others antibodies for protection in lieu of flu shot shouldnt they test to build database of possible donors -in event shot is not available in 2009?

Re: New York DOH Website Update?

OK, I found it here:
http://www.nycms.org/files/HAN27.pdf

but only in .pdf format

and not the updated number of hospitalizations and deaths.

The last what I remember was ~850 hospitalizations and ~50 deaths ?

----edit---------

I finally found it here:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/12/nyregion/12swine.html

As of July 7, when the city’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
stopped updating its data, there had been 47 deaths and 909 hospitalizations
in New York City of people with confirmed cases of swine flu. Health officials
estimated that more than half a million New Yorkers contracted swine flu.

Re: New York DOH Website Update?

It's shameful that they have not updated. Who'd have ever thought that in the midst of a pandemic, the United States of America would be withholding information from its citizens. It is bizarre to know more of what is happening beyond our borders than within.
