New 'probable' case in swine flu outbreak

A patient from Ayrshire and Arran has been identified as a 'probable' fresh case of swine flu in Scotland.

The individual had flown from Texas to Birmingham on April 27 and then onto Scotland on April 30.

However, by the time the person flew back to Scotland they were already displaying flu-like symptoms.

Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon, announcing the latest development at a press conference in Edinburgh on Saturday, explained that the new probable case had no connection to Iain and Dawn Askham or Graeme Pacitti.

Ms Sturgeon also confirmed there were 19 possible cases under investigation. Nine of those were new and ten were part of the 29 possibles being examined on Friday. The remaining patients have been cleared.

All of the new possible cases are travel-related, none having had any contact with the Askhams or Mr Pacitti.
