New outbreak of Salmonella infections reported; other food poisoning outbreaks ongoing

The Food and Drug Administration is investigating a new outbreak of Salmonella Newport infections of unknown origin.

As of Feb. 20 there were 27 confirmed patients, but the FDA is not releasing the patients’ ages or where they live. The agency has begun traceback efforts but is not yet reporting what food is being traced.

For an outbreak of infections from Listeria monocytogenes, the patient count has increased to 38. The FDA has not reported the ages of the patients or where they live. The agency has begun traceback efforts but has not reported what food it is tracing. Also, the agency has begun an onsite inspection and sample testing but has not reported what location is being inspected or what is being tested. The FDA first reported the outbreak on Dec. 26, 2024. ...

In other outbreak news, the FDA is continuing to investigate a Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak traced to imported mini pastries. The agency reported the outbreak on Feb. 5 but the patient count of 18 has not been updated since Jan. 29. ...

A recall has been initiated for Sweet Cream-brand mini pastries with best by dates from June 17 through Nov. 15 this year. The pastries were manufactured in Italy and exported into the United States by Importations Piu Che Dolci Inc. of Quebec, Canada. ...
