Eight new mothers died from swine flu after a string of ?avoidable? medical errors, it emerged today.

Their deaths followed serious delays in their treatment.

The Centre for Maternal and Child Enquiries which investigates maternal deaths, found delays in admitting the mothers-to-be to hospital; in testing for and confirming swine flu; and in administering antiviral drugs such as Tamiflu.

The study, based on last winter's swine flu cases, is marked ?Confidential, Not for Circulation?. It emerged as deaths from this year's flu outbreak continued to rise...
