New Jersey?s Corzine Confirms Five Swine Flu Cases (Update1)

April 30 (Bloomberg) -- New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine and
state health officials said five suspected cases of swine flu
have been confirmed by the federal Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention.
The illness has been found in a 22-year-old Bergen County
woman; 43-year-old Monmouth County man; and a 47-year-old man,
girl, 10, and boy, 14, from the same Burlington County family.
Two other suspected cases are under review, Corzine said. Four
of those with the flu had traveled to Mexico and one had
returned from California, health officials said in a statement.
?All of us carry a reasonable concern about this
situation, but we?re not in the alarm stage,? Corzine told
reporters today in Trenton. ?It?s a time for all of us to be
cautious but not alarmed.?
All of the cases were mild and none of those with the H1N1
virus, commonly referred to as swine flu, were hospitalized,
said Heather Howard, commissioner of the Department of Health
and Senior Services. None had attended or visited schools and
because the cases were scattered statewide, New Jersey hasn?t
identified a non-family cluster, she said.
?It?s safe to say we can expect to see more cases in the
coming days,? Howard said. ?We know that based on these five
cases that we have H1N1 here in New Jersey.?
Howard said the state has established a hot-line for swine
flu-related questions at 1-866-321-9571. She said it received
more than 1,100 calls yesterday in its first day.
