DELAWARE TWP. ? A case of bacterial meningitis has been confirmed in a township elementary school student, the county Health Department said today. That type is usually much more severe than viral meningitis. It?s also rare; the last confirmed case was in 1998, also in Delaware Township, when a 5-year-old boy died from it.
Family members of the child stricken recently are receiving antibiotics to prevent them from contracting the disease. In a letter from school administrators, parents were told about the diagnosis: ?While this can be upsetting, the chance of your child/you also becoming ill with this disease is very small.?
