A coronavirus patient in Fort Lee, New Jersey, is a health-care worker with a residence in Manhattan, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The infection of health-care workers is of particular concern for two reasons: They could have contracted the disease from a patient, or they could have been around vulnerable people while sick. The patient, who hadn’t traveled internationally, fell ill March 2 after attending a conference in New York City, the person said.

The patient sought care at a walk-in clinic in Bergen County, then was sent to Hackensack University Medical Center and placed in isolation, state Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said at a news briefing. She also confirmed a second case in the state...

The latest patient to be diagnosed, in Englewood, was discharged to their home on Thursday afternoon, where they are to remain in self-quarantine, Englewood Health hospital said.


More cases are expected, but the current risk to the general public remains low, state Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said.

(Gloucester Township, NJ) – The Camden County Department of Health is announcing the first presumptive positive case of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) identified in Camden County. The individual is a male, Camden County resident, in his 60s and is currently hospitalized in stable condition.

“While we know that any case of coronavirus presents a cause for concern for our residents, we want to emphasize that this case only reemphasizes the need to follow personal hygiene guidelines vigilantly, this should not be a cause for panic and the risk to the general public remains low,” said Health Officer Paschal Nwako. “Our department has been planning and preparing for several weeks for the possibility of a case of coronavirus in Camden County, and residents can rest assured that we are prepared to act swiftly and protect the health of our community.”

This evening, we identified a fourth presumptive positive case of novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, in New Jersey. The individual, a male in his 50s, is hospitalized at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in Bergen County. The individual has been hospitalized since March 5.

The presumptive positive result came from a sample tested by the New Jersey Department of Health at the New Jersey Public Health Environmental Laboratories and is now being submitted to the CDC for confirmatory testing. State and local public health authorities are proceeding with the public health investigation and response activities as if this was a confirmed case and following all infectious disease protocols.

Currently, there is one Person Under Investigation pending testing in the state Public Health Environmental Labs.

State health officials on Tuesday announced the first coronavirus death in New Jersey as a 69-year-old man from Bergen County, while the total number of positive cases in the state increased to 15.

“We are sad to report the first death in a case of COVID-19 in New Jersey," New Jersey officials said in a statement. "Our prayers are with the family during this difficult time. We remain vigilant to doing all we can — across all levels of government — to protect the people of New Jersey.”

The 69-year-old man, who had pre-existing health conditions, died Tuesday morning, state health officials said. He is among the four new presumptive positive coronavirus cases revealed Tuesday from the state’s lab...

...This news came as four additional presumptive positive cases were reported in New Jersey, including a couple in Riverton, Burlington County.

The residents are a 62-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman, who are husband and wife, with a history of travel to Italy, Burlington County health officials said. They have both been isolated at home with mild illness since March 4.

An additional two presumptive positive cases are in Bergen County, officials said...

TRENTON, N.J. - New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy announced 21 new cases of presumed positive coronavirus Friday, raising the state total to 50 presumptive cases with one death.

Gov. Murphy says the state is currently working with school districts on extended closure plans to prepare for a potential statewide closure.

On Friday afternoon, health department officials announced an additional presumptive positive case of novel coronavirus identified in Camden County. Teaneck Mayor Mohammed Hameeduddin said Saturday that he is asking all residents of the town, which has about 40,000 people, to self-quarantine.
Hameeduddin said people have continued to congregate in recent days and that heightens the risk of the virus spreading even more.
