New HIV Infections Outstripping Treatment Gains

"Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon warned on World AIDS Day that new infections are outpacing the gains from treating people with the HIV virus and millions of victims still experience widespread discrimination.

The 2009 AIDS epidemic update released last week estimated that 33.4 million people are living with HIV worldwide, 2.7 million were newly infected in 2008 and 2 million died of AIDS related illness in 2008."
