New England Man Dies of EEE

October 29, 2008

The man who recently contracted eastern equine encephalitis, has died of his illness...

A 73-year-old Massachusetts man who contracted eastern equine encephalitis from a mosquito in either Maine or New Hampshire has died from the disease.

The state Department of Health confirmed the death on Tuesday; calling it a sad reminder of how serious EEE can be.

The unidentified victim began showing symptoms in back in September.

Two weeks before that, he had traveled in the areas of Naples, Maine and Gorham, New Hampshire.

Health officials believe that's when he contracted the disease.
