The son of the person detected Friday Tontouta International Airport by a thermal imaging camera was also infected with chikungunya. The two men have just returned from a trip to Tahiti and live in the neighborhood of Magenta in Noumea, close to the stage.
This second imported case was discovered during on-site investigation by the medical teams of the DASS (Department of Health and Social Affairs).
One of the nurses performed a blood test at home and the results of the analysis confirmed that the second traveler was also infected with chikungunya.
The whole family and neighborhood residents were informed and the DASS team distributed them repellent. Of spreading research and breeding sites were also made in the neighborhood.
The risk of an outbreak of chikungunya in New Caledonia is high. Health authorities recommend to ensure precautions: avoid standing water in his garden, protect against mosquitoes and consult a doctor if you suspect fever quickly.
