New Brunswick health officials are encouraging people to get immunized against pertussis, also known as whooping cough.

The highly contagious bacterial infection has now been confirmed at two schools in the province ? Forest Hills Elementary School in Saint John and Riverview Middle School in Moncton...

FREDERICTON - New Brunswick's chief medical officer of health says reported cases of whooping cough in the province have doubled in the last month.

Eilish Cleary says to date there are 100 reported cases, an increase of 53 since the outbreak was announced at the end of February.

Cleary says the outbreak has mainly hit the southern and eastern areas of the province...

...New Brunswick health officials are currently dealing with a significant outbreak of whooping cough, with 370 cases reported as of last month. The cases are concentrated in Moncton and to the Nova Scotia border.

The province began a vaccination campaign in May when the outbreak was first discovered. Thousands of students in Moncton and Saint John were given shots, and New Brunswick intends to vaccinate children in more communities when school starts up again in the fall...

An outbreak of pertussis, also known as whopping cough, has doubled in New Brunswick since last month.

So far this year, 892 people have been diagnosed with whooping cough in the province. The vast majority of the cases ? 45 per cent ? are in Health Region 1, which includes the Moncton area.

The outbreak crossed the border into Cumberland County, Nova Scotia. A few cases were reported there at the beginning of June...
