A total of 14 cases have been recorded since the season began; majority B. This is above the previous two seasons for this time.

Southern Nevada Health District
During the week ending November 24, 2012, the following viruses were identified through PEWSS with a moderate volume of testing: Adenovirus, Parainfluenza 2, Parainfluenza 3 and RSV.
Over the past five weeks , the following were identified in the community through PEWSS:Parainfluenza 2 has been circulating at high levels.
Adenovirus, Parainfluenza 3 and RSV have been circulating at low levels.
Influenza A has been sporadically identified.

Southern Nevada Health District:
During the week ending December 29, 2012, the following viruses were identified through PEWSS with a moderate volume of testing: Influenza A, Influenza B, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza 2, Parainfluenza 3 and RSV. RSV continues to circulate at high levels in Southern Nevada.

The high number of respiratory viruses circulating in our community during this surveillance period may 
account for the detection of Influenza B, RSV, and Adenovirus in a single test specimen collected from a pediatric 
patient.  This is the first time PEWSS detected a co‐infection of three respiratory viruses in one ill person since the 
inception of the program.

Southern Nevada experiencing moderate influenza activity
Health district reminds residents it’s not too late to get vaccinated

LAS VEGAS–Currently Southern Nevada is experiencing moderate influenza activity. However, with reports of widespread activity throughout the country, cases are expected to increase locally. The Southern Nevada Health District is reminding Valley residents, especially those most at risk from complications from the illness, that it is not too late to get vaccinated. Since June 2009, PEWSS detected 88 co‐infections in nasal swab samples collected from pediatric patients. RSV was the most frequently detected virus in co-infections, and was present in 53%.
