Age: 4 – 51 jaar, median 20 years (n=37)

Muscle or joint disease 2

Unknown 7

No underlying illness 15

* Including 1 patient with diabetes and immune dysfunction


My conclusion: 40% of H1N1 patients with pneumonia and/or in hospital are "young and healthy".

It seems to early to say what caused the relative high percentage of "young and healthy" with serious symptoms .

At the moment a lot of cases in the Netherlands are young people coming back from a holiday ("swine flu party") in Spain.

Few elderly are infected, may be because this group does not travel as much as the younger groups.

Only in a later stage, with much more infected people we can know more.

In the meantime we should not be surprised to find more serious cases in young and healthy people.
