MOH purchases influenza vaccine for every Dutchman

Netherlands buy 34 million vaccines against the Mexican
flu. That was decided by Klink, Minister of Health
on Thursday. This week he closes contracts with
manufacturers. With them it was agreed that the vaccines
by the end of this year should be available.


The Minister chooses to offer a vaccination to all Dutch
. Earlier scenarios were
still thought that only certain risks groups would be
vaccinated.


The vaccine, which still must be developed,
can prevent the coming winter swine flu
in our country from 4000 to 10,000 deaths.


In a normal seasonal flu one vaccination a year per
person is sufficient. But because the swine flu by
a whole new virus is caused, are a
person two vaccinations required before the body is
has built up sufficient immunity.

The worst part is the "by the end of this year" statement.

12-6=6 -> after six months it will dilagate everywhere already.

I wish I was dutch!

here in the US, I've been told by Kaiser even I (who have asthma and have developed pneumonia 2X before in the past post-flu) and others under 1 who are highly suspect of asthma won't get tamiflu unless we are hospitalized.

let alone get vaccinations- i.e. we're not school-children.

Yes,

you are right about that, a lot can happen until "the end of this year".

Health authorities said they hope to be able to contain the infections vaccination is available.

Also this says authorities seems to take H1N! seriously: you don't order vaccination for the whole population if it is an "ordinary flu".

More European countries will (try to..) vaccinate, including France.

I guess, the Germans will have it earlier

so will there be some vax-tourism ?

will they close borders ?


You may negotiate some earlier doses from Germany for risk-groups
while both countries adjust their general-population-inoculation


or they just abandon it, because by that time the wave had caught us already



we are now, where USA was ~10.May , so in ~5 weeks we are in Europe where USA is now

when the US-vaccine is ready, many people,towns,regions no more need it,
so there could be lots of unused USA-not-needed vax available for Africa rural China etc. where
there is no airtravel and where it spreads slowly
