44 new patients, a total of 82 positive tests

Since the last update, 44 new patients have been reported to the RIVM National Institute for Public Health and the Environment. This brings the total number of positive patients tested to 82. Of these, 69 patients were infected abroad or contacts from confirmed patients. Of the new patients, two are admitted to the hospital. The other new patients are in home insulation.

One new patient was found via a monitoring station of the Nivel Dutch Institute for Healthcare Research. Nivel, together with the Erasmus MC Erasmus Medical Center and RIVM, is conducting research into flu-like symptoms. Together they test at 40 GP practices how often these symptoms occur and which viruses cause these symptoms. Since a few weeks, this research is also being tested for the new corona virus. The source of the infection is still unknown for a few patients. The GGD Municipal Health Service is still investigating the possible source. Contact investigation has been started for all new patients.

Patient with new coronavirus passed away

Publication date 06-03-2020 | 10:56

An 86-year-old man who was admitted to the Ikazia Hospital in Rotterdam with COVID-19 died today. The source of infection of this patient is so far unknown. This is the first patient in the Netherlands who died from the consequences of an infection with the new corona virus.

After it became known that the patient had COVID-19, he was cared for in isolation. The hospital and the Municipal HealthService (GGD ) have mapped out the contacts of the patient (visitors and caregivers) and check whether they have complaints. All contacts of patients who have a cold or a fever have been asked to stay at home. They are tested if necessary.

The new coronavirus can spread through drops. For example if someone coughs or sneezes in the face of another. Symptoms of the disease are fever and respiratory symptoms such as shortness of breath or cough. A person with fever and respiratory complaints and who has been in an area where COVID-19 is widespread in the last 14 days can be tested for COVID-19. This currently applies to the following countries: China (including Hong Kong and Macau), Singapore, South Korea, Iran and some provinces in Northern Italy (Aosta Valley, Piedmont, Lombardy, Trentino-South Tyrol, Friuli-Julisch- Venice, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna and Liguria).

Man, 86, is first Dutch coronavirus casualty, cause of infection still unknown
March 6, 2020

The 86-year-old man who was diagnosed with coronavirus at the start of the outbreak in the Netherlands has died, health board officials said on Friday. The man was being treated in quarantine at the Ikazia Ziekenhuis in Rotterdam after his diagnose was confirmed last week. Officials do not yet know how he contracted the virus....

Dutch Health Institute RIVM wants people from Brabant Province to stay home if feeling ill

The RIVM advises everyone in Noord-Brabant with mild health problems to stay at home until they have recovered. This in realtion with the corona outbreak in the Netherlands. The reason for the call is that in many cases of infection in Brabant the source is still unclear.

The RIVM defines mild health problems as coughing and runny nose, with or without a fever.

The call of the RIVM is that people with mild complaints are asked to avoid the nightlife, not to go to work and not to visit anyone in the hospital or nursing home. People can go to the supermarket to buy basic necessities. All this applies to the period that someone feels sick.

Coronavirus patient total rises to 188; Concern for "irresponsible" students back from Italy
By Zack Newmark on March 7, 2020 - 14:42

Sixty more people in the Netherlands tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total to 188. Forty percent of the new patients, 24, reside in the Noord-Brabant province.

The numbers, provided by health agency RIVM, were expected to show a higher number of cases in Noord-Brabant, where the prevailing health advice is for anyone who lives in the province and has even a mild fever or minor cough to stay home. The reason being that investigators traced the source of infection for several patients to the province, and for many others it was difficult to determine how they became infected.

The Netherlands' first death of a patient with the coronavirus infection happened on Friday, when an 86-year-old man from Hoekse Waard succumbed to the disease. He was admitted to the Ikazia Hospital in Rotterdam with urinary tract problems on Sunday and was tested for the coronavirus after he started showing respiratory problems, the hospital said on Tuesday, confirming his diagnosis....

Since yesterday, 60 new patients have been reported to the RIVM National Institute for Public Health and the Environment. This brings the total number of positively tested patients to 188 of which 1 patient died. Most new patients were reported in Noord-Brabant: 26.

The investigation * into the spread of the virus in Noord-Brabant has meanwhile started. The RIVM expects to be able to say more about this early next week. Until then, the advice applies to Noord-Brabant: if you have a cold, are you coughing or have a fever: stay at home and limit your social contacts.

Of the 188 patients, 112 have been abroad. The majority (103) of these patients have been in (Northern) Italy. In addition, 47 people were infected through a diagnosed patient. 29 people are still being investigated how they became infected.

The majority of patients reside in home insulation. 24 patients have been hospitalized. The GGD Municipal Health Service and contact investigation are also starting for all new patients.

Covid-19 diagnoses in NL jump to 503; fifth death
By Janene Pieters on March 11, 2020 - 14:28

Another 121 people in the Netherlands tested positive for the new coronavirus, bringing the total Covid-19 diagnoses in the country up to 503, public health institute RIVM said on Wednesday. A 68-year-old person became the fifth Covid-19 fatality in the Netherlands. This patient had underlying health problems, the RIVM said.

Wednesday's increase in Covid-19 cases is higher than the 61 new diagnoses on Tuesday and 56 new cases on Monday. According to RIVM, the increase partly has to do with hospital testing done in Noord-Brabant between March 6 and 8, the results of which came in on Wednesday. A total of 1,097 hospital workers were tested in the province, and 3.9 percent were diagnosed with the coronavirus. The percentages differ per hospital. 200 patients were also tested, and an average of 9 percent had the virus. The people who were tested were already showing symptoms.

Of the total 503 Covid-19 patients in the Netherlands, 199 contracted the virus abroad. In 92 cases, the source of the virus is not yet known - the majority of these patients live in Noord-Brabant...

1 patient died, 121 new patients, a total of 503 positively tested persons

At present, 121 new people have been tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the new corona virus. This brings the total positive tests to 503. The number of new positive tests is higher than in recent days. Part of the increase can be explained by the care research that has been carried out in recent days in Noord-Brabant. In addition, a fifth person died of the disease. It concerns a person of 68 with underlying suffering.

Of the 503 reported cases, 223 live in the province of Noord-Brabant and 66 in the province of Utrecht. In addition, 57 live in the province of South Holland and 48 in the province of Limburg. 199 out of 503 people had a source of contamination abroad. This is still being investigated in 92 cases. The majority of patients with an unknown source live in Noord-Brabant.

Healthcare research
From 6-8 March 1097 employees were tested in hospitals in North Brabant. 3.9% indeed appeared to have the corona virus. The percentages differ per hospital. 200 patients were also tested. On average, 9% of these patients had the virus. The people who were tested already had complaints.

Risk areas adjusted
The list of risk areas has been adjusted. The area in the north of Italy has been extended to Italy. Singapore and Macau are no longer seen as a risk area because the virus is no longer widely spread there.

Dutch coronavirus positive test toll nears 1,000, two more patients die Society March 14, 2020

The number of patients in the Netherlands testing positive for coronavirus rose by 155 to 959 on Saturday, the public health institute RIVM said in its latest daily briefing. In addition, two more people have died of the disease, taking the total deaths to 12. All were older people with underlying health problems, the RIVM said.

The downturn in the number of positive tests – there were 190 on Friday – is probably because of changes in testing policy, the RIVM said. ‘Since March 12, people with mild symptoms are not being tested because the national strategy is now to stay home with early complaints. In addition, more tests are being carried out on at-risk groups.’...

Two patients deceased, 155 new patients, in total 959 persons tested positive

Since yesterday, 155 more people have tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. This brings the total number of positive tested people to 959. Since yesterday two patients have died of COVID-19, both older patients with underlying health conditions. A total of 12 people have now died from COVID-19 in the Netherlands. A total of 136 patients have been admitted to a hospital.

Today less new positive tests were reported than yesterday. One possible reason for this decrease is that the testing policy has changed. From 12 March, people with mild complaints are no longer tested because of the national measure to stay at home with the first symptoms. In addition, more people are being tested that belong to risk groups. On 12 March, the government also called on people to limit social contacts. It is still too early to see the effect of this measure.

40 to 50 Dutch corona patients in intensive care units: "More than half are under fifty"

Today there are between forty and fifty corona patients in critical condition in Dutch intensive care units. “More than half of those patients are under fifty years old. There are also young people. "" That says chairman of the Dutch Association for Intensive Care (NVIC) Diederik Gommers, in an interview with this site.

The professor of intensive care medicine, who himself heads the IC of Rotterdam's Erasmus MC, emphasizes that it is not only the elderly who are affected by the corona virus. ,, What has mainly made the news is that older people die faster. This is about 2.5 percent of the entire population, while about 15 percent of the elderly die. But more than half of those patients are under fifty years old. There are also young people.

...............................

Dutch doctors have also been informed about patients from Lombardy, Italy, who confirm data that young and relatively healthy people are also affected by the corona virus. ,, The youngest intubated Covid-19 patient is a girl of 16 years old. Two children with Covid-19 were admitted to the pediatric IC for observation but did not require additional therapy, "the information circulated among Dutch physicians states. The first patient to be ventilated in that Italian region was ventilated for eighteen days, while he was relatively healthy. "It was a 38-year-old, otherwise very healthy man, who ran marathons."
