The bird flu virus is present in several locations in Twente. Because these are popular hiking areas, especially for people with dogs, the water board is urging extra vigilance.
The water board advises keeping a distance from birds and not touching dead or sick animals. It is also advised to keep dogs on a leash and avoid contact with water. Dead birds can be reported to the water board.
Bornerbroek
According to the
RIVM's bird flu map, the outbreak involves greylag geese, which were found this month. Two years ago, bird flu was also detected in the Kristalbad.
Over the past two months, avian influenza was also detected at two poultry farms in Bornerbroek. This resulted in the culling of 18,000 animals in November and over 70,000 earlier this week.
For this reason, a transport ban has been imposed within a ten-kilometer radius of Bornerbroek. Poultry may not be transported within this zone. There are 33 other poultry farms in the area.
