The deceased has been identified as Yusuf Miya of Dangrekholsi in Byas municipality-2, who died of Swine Flu, according to his elder brother Yakub Miya.
Yusuf was admitted to the Manipal Teaching Hospital last Saturday after he went under the weather for two weeks. He was then airlifted to the Grande Hospital in Kathmandu for further treatment.
Miya was shifted from Grande to the TU Teaching Hospital, where he breathed his last while undergoing treatment there. The hospital pronounced him dead this morning and also confirmed that he was bearing the Swine Flu, Yakub said. The last rites of Yusuf were held at the graveyard in Byas-11 today itself.
[h=2]Swine flu terror[/h] DAMAULI: The death of a man due to swine flu has unleashed terror among locals in Tanahun. Yusuf Miya, 41, from Dangrekholsi, Byas municipality died of swine flu while undergoing treatment at TU Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu, last Friday. Miya, suffering from fever and common cold, was referred to the hospital after he could not be treated at Manipal Teaching Hospital, Pokhara and Grandy International Hospital, Kathmandu. Yusuf?s death has caused panic among the locals. Ranjan Shrestha from Byas said people started wearing masks to protect themselves from swine flu after Yusuf?s death. District Public Health Office Tanahun Chief Dr Pawanjung Raymajhi said his office was looking into Yusuf?s death. He added that if the swine flu was verified through the medical report, his office would work to take precautionary measures against the flu.
According to district health office focal person Aishworyachandra Bhattarai, the step-up has followed confirmation of the death of Yusuf Miyan, 41, of Byas municipality due to swine flu. He had died in the course of treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu two days ago.
On his part, Public Health Officer Durga Datta Chapagain informed about the support the concerned department has extended to stem a possible outbreak here.
?We?ve received 500 capsules of Tamiflu, as many masks and other necessary items from the Department of Epidemiology and Disease Control, Kathmandu,? said Dr Pawanjung Rayamajhi, chief of the District Health Office.
