PARASI: Viral fever has claimed two lives in Nawalparasi on Friday. Numerous schools have been shut down as the parents did not send their children to the schools fearing the disease.


Bipin Neupane , a Grade two student and Janaki Kumal, a Grade six student from Janata Higher Secondary School died due to the viral fever. The school has been closed for a week, as more than three hundred student started suffering from fever, school authorities said.


Bipin and Janaki died while being taken to Bharatpur Hospital.


The locals are living in fear as the neighbouring district Chitwan is at high risk of dengue but health workers informed that though the patients are suffering from fever, there is no symptom of dengue.

Mostly villagers and students are suffering from fever, a hospital source said.

report. The exclusion of dengue fever and the prevalence of the fever
in a school setting suggest that an arboviral infection is unlikely.
Other than that there is no information that would allow a more

GORKHA: Barpak and Sourpani villages in the district are under the grip of viral fever. According to Dilliram Dawadi, a teacher, more than 100 villagers are suffering from fever for the last four days. He said at least 10-15 students from Snan, Pokhari and Rangrung of Barpak are ill due to fever.

KATHMANDU:With hundreds of people in more than a dozen VDCs of this district in its grip, viral fever is emerging as a public health crisis.

According to Ramnath Shah, senior assistant health worker at the Thulipokhari health post, nearly 200 locals of Thulipokhari VDC have viral fever.

Of late, more than 70 patients have been visiting the health post every day. Lal Bahadur Thapa, in-charge of the Devisthan health post, says the health post sees around 30 patients from Devisthan VDC each day. With viral fever affecting students as well, academic activities in many schools have taken a hit.

Pashupati Higher Secondary School at Kuska, the district headquarters, has shut from Thursday after the fever afflicted more than of its 400 students.

Gobinda Timilsina, the head teacher, said the students received treatment at the school itself with cooperation from the District Public Health Office.

Devi Lamichhane, chairman of the management committee of the Tilahar-based Dimuwa Primary School, said the management was thinking of closing the school for some days as the number of students in the classes had suddenly decreased.

GULMI: Inadequate infrastructure at the Tamghas-based Gulmi district hospital has forced fever and influenza patients to await treatment lying on the floor.

This situation has arisen with a surge in the number of fever and influenza patients since last week.

There’s no other alternative for the patients than to await treatment lying on the floor because the 15-bed hospital cannot accommodate 20-25 patients, who visit the hospital daily for treatment, says Bheshraj Pokharel, chief of the District Health Office.

Among about 350 visitors, who have flocked to the hospital for treatment after fever and influenza took epidemic proportions in the district, over 60 patients are reported to have viral fever.

Sher Bahadur Thapa, the Hospital Development Committee chairman, puts his dissatisfaction that the hospital has come to

witness this kind of situation because the Health Ministry has never bothered to add more beds in the hospital despite repeated requests.

RAJBIRAJ: More than 50 inmates at Saptari prison have been taken ill following the spread of viral fever inside the prison, it was reported on Wednesday.
The number of inmates falling victim to the viral fever is on the rise since it began four days ago.
Those affected are suffering from fever along with vomiting and eye-itching, Acting Chief of the Prison, Bhagwat Yadav said.
So far 52 inmates have been taken ill. The prison is currently home to 144 inmates.
The prison is finding hard to deal with such a large number of inmates falling sick at once, and has so communicated to the Department of Prison Management, District Public Health Office and the Chief District Officer for necessary assistance, Yadav said.

TANAHAUN: With the monsoon at its peak, Tanahun district has seen a surge in the number of viral fever patients over the past week.

The Damauli hospital alone has witnessed a sudden increase in the cases with over two hundred patients visiting the health facility daily, according to a hospital source.

Patients visiting the hospital complain of headache, common cold and high fever, says Dr Sailu Ghimire of the hospital.

Doctors have advised the patients to wear masks, drink boiled water and maintain cleanliness.

“Around 20 patients get admitted to the hospital and receive treatment daliy,” the hospital source says.

The patients visiting the hospital are mainly from Byash municipality, Jamune, Kahusibir, Ghasikuwa, Pokharibhanjyang and Kamin VDCs of the district.

NEPALGUNJ: Five saliva samples of patients suffering from viral fever have been sent to national laboratory in Kathmandu from Banke. The patients are suspected to have contracted swine flu. According to Ram Bahadur Chand of District Health Office, Banke, three samples from Baijapur and two from Bheri Zonal Hospital were sent to Kathmandu. Viral fever epidemic has gripped three wards of Baijapur.

GULMI: Viral fever that outbroke last week here in the district is taking a toll on locals. Today, a CPN-UML district committee member, Bhim Bahadur Shah, who was suffering from viral fever for the last one week succumbed to the disease.
According to district deputy chairman of the CPN-UML, Madhukrishna Panta, 47-year-old Shah died while undergoing treatment at Manipal Teaching Hospital in Pokhara. Shah was earlier admitted to Palpa Mission Hospital and was later referred to Manipal a week ago. Shah?s body has been brought to his village Ridi where his final rites will be performed.

Death toll in the district due to viral fever has reached four. The fever has affected locals of more than a dozen VDCs in the western parts of the district. Local health facilities are short of medicines. According to Kiran Khanal, acting chief, District Public Health Office, a medical team has been deployed in the affected area.



Nawalparasi under attack



PARASI: With a change in the weather, hospitals and health centres across Nawalparasi district are witnessing a sudden surge of patients, especially suffering from viral fever. According to Prithvi Chandra, an official at DPHO, around 200 patients suffering from viral fever and diarrhoea are visiting the hospital daily. Rukum: Viral fever spreading here over the past few days has taken the form of epidemic with the change of weather.



Hundreds of fever patients have been visiting the Rukum District Hospital for treatment daily.



According to the District Public Health Office, the disease has taken severe form at one and half dozen VDCs, including Ghetma, Athbiskot, Athbisdanda, Garayala, Simli, Arma, Nuwakot, Kholagaun and Khalanga.



District Public Health Officer Dr. Mina Limbu said the hospital has been unable to provide full treatment service to patients due to lack of enough space to admit them. She said the number of patients has been going up since public do not know ways to prevent the disease.



"All the seven members of my family, except me, have been suffering from viral fever," said Sunita Magar, a woman who arrived in the district headquarters to treat her daughter from Sayalapakha VDC-4.



With more and more patients coming for treatment, the hospital has been facing the shortage of medicine. RSS

BAJURA: An adolescent girl died here due to viral fever. Thirteen-year-old Radhika Rokaya of Kanda Village Development Committee (VDC)-9 lost her life to viral fever, informed local Jagat Rokaya.



Shed breathed her last on the way to Safebagar for further treatment when village health post could not prevent the fever. More than 15 locals of Kandagaun have been victimized by the fever.
