Malaria patients rising
PARASI, Aug. 29: An outbreak of malaria has gripped the southern VDCs of Nawalparasi district recently.
According to the Nawalparasi District Health Office, Paklihawa, Triveni, Jamuna and other VDCs saw rise in the number of malaria patients in July and August.
Five patients were found catching dangerous malaria in between July and August in Paklihawa VDC, the Sub-Health Post informed.
Chief at the Sub-Health Post Rajkishor Mandal said blood samples of 150 persons have been sent for lab test upon suspicion of malaria.
Fifteen-year-old Girija Koiri, 35-year-old Shivnath Musahar and 19-year-old Mohan Dhobi of Paklihawa-3 are on medication, Mandal added.
Similarly, according to Health Post, malaria has been seen with Mahendra Majhi of Triveni, Bijaya Chaudhary of Jamuniya and Hari Regmi of Makar.
Despite the efforts to tame the disease through launching of various programmes in the district, Malaria is raging in bordering VDCs.
Meanwhile in Chitwan, the Chitwan School of Medical Sciences Pvt Ltd has started OPD services in Bharatpur yesterday. The college had started the construction of the hospital some nine months ago in a rented land owned by Chitwan Higher Secondary School at Bharatpur-10.
In a press statement released yesterday, the college said the hospital will be expanded to 300-bed capacity by mid-September and to 700 beds by mid-October.
The statement signed by managing director of the college Dr Harish Chandra Nyupane said modern equipment will be used in disease diagnosis and treatment of patients.
The college was established by leading medical specialists and Dhaulagiri Holdings has invested Rs 1.68 billion in the college. With this college, Chitwan now have two medical colleges.
In Parasi, the surgery services at the Prithvi Chandra Hospital of the Nawalparasi district headquarters that remained halted for two years has resumed.
Closed due to the lack of competent doctors, the hospital has its operation service restarted after Dr Nurul Hoda has been posted here, hospital chief Dr. Gopal Khanal said.
Earlier, patients were forced to go to Butwal, Bhairahawa and Kathmandu even for minor surgeries.
With the resumption of the services now, locals said many people of the district, including those living in places of bordering India, will heave a sigh of relief.
