Bird flu hits third time in Sitapaila

KATHMANDU: Department of Animal Health officials on Wednesday culled over some 2640 chicken destroyed some 20kgs chicken grain and some 527 eggs in Sitapaila-1, third time in this area after the confirmation of Bird flu (H5N1).
Almost a week after the culling of huge number chicks and eggs from the same site, the animal health officials destroyed chickens , eggs and grains of poultry farms owned by Prem Bahadur Manandhar and Rajendra Budathoki of Sitapaila-1.
Narayan Giri, spokesperson at the Department of Animal Health informed that two chicken cages of the affected site have been cleaned up.

Third bird flu case in capital

KATHMANDU, Jan 2: A case of bird flu has been confirmed in a poultry farm in Sitapaila, in a third such occurrence in just over a week in the capital, on Wednesday morning.
According to Narayan Prasad Ghimire, a senior veterinarian at the Directorate of Animal Health (DoAH), bird flu virus was detected in a poultry farm jointly owned by Prem Manandhar and Rajendra Budhathoki in Sitapaila-1.
A DoAH team culled bird flu-tainted 2,640 chickens and destroyed 550 eggs at the farm this morning, Ghimire said, adding another 200 chickens had died Tuesday night due to the avian influenza.
The poultry farm lies some 500 meters from another farm owned by Surya Mohan Pokharel in Sitapaila-1, where some 2,240 chicken were destroyed in December 26 after the virus was detected in the farm.
