Kathmandu, March 16: Bird flu has been confirmed at a poultry firm in Pharphing, Kathmandu.
The tests on a sample of the dead chicken of Dallu Hatchery and Feed Firm confirmed that the chicken died of avian influenza (H5N1 strain), according to the director of directorate of National Animal Health Ram Krishna Khatiwada. Hundreds of chicken had died at the firm.
Preventive measures to stop the spread of bird flu have been adopted keeping the area under high alert, Khatiwada informed.
Earlier in the month of February, bird flu was confirmed in Sunsari and Ilam districts.
Cases of bird flu have been repeatedly found in the country though the government had declared Nepal as the bird flu free country on July 13 last year.
