Kathmandu, July 12 - As against the government?s claim that polio would be eradicated within 2012, some new cases of polio have been found again after two years.
Four new polio patients have been found in two districts: Rautahat and Mahottari of eastern Tarai. All patients are under the age of five years.
Last time, six polio cases were found in 2008.
The government has been carrying out the campaign to administer polio drops to children for 14 years.
Experts claimed that the new cases showed the government has failed in its plan.
Department of Health Services (DHS) said that maximum patients had taken polio drops more than nine times.
The Ministry of Health and Population was planning to declare the country polio free by 2012 before these cases were found.
Dr. Yashovardhan Pradhan, director general of DHS, suspected that polio cases might have come from India.
