Four die from dengue, scrub typhus in Chitwan

CHITWAN: Four persons have died from dengue and scrub typhus so far in Chitwan district.

Three died while undergoing treatment at Chitwan Medical College and one at Old Medical College.

Vector Controller at the District Health Office, Chitwan, Ram KC, said that a 28-year-old girl of Gaindakot died from scrub typhus while a 71-year-old elderly person of Gaindakot, and a 34-year-old man from Rautahat district died from dengue disease while receiving treatment at Chitwan Medical College.

KC further said that a 16-year-old girl of Shukranagar died from the infection of both dengue and scrub typhus diseases. The infection of both diseases is increasing in the district. Out of 1,908 people, who underwent dengue tests at a different hospital in the district from the beginning of the current fiscal year, 623 people were found infected with dengue...

Scrub typhus cases up in hilly districts

Until a few years ago, scrub typhus cases were found only in Tarai districts. However, scrub typhus has been diagnosed in hilly districts of Sudurpaschim Province of late as well.

Out of 128 patients admitted in Dadeldhura Hospital, 27 were found to be infected with scrub typhus in the past 15 days.

Twenty-seven persons from Dadeldhura, Doti, Baitadi, Darchula, and Bajhang were infected with the disease.

Hospital lab Chief Ishwori Prasad Bhusal warned that scrub typhus might take on epidemic proportions if precautions were not taken on time...

Kathmandu, November 9

The number of patients suffering from scrub typhus, a disease caused by parasites found in rats, has drastically increased in Kathmandu valley along with other districts across the country this year.

According to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division of the Department of Health Services the valley had reported 15 cases of scrub typhus in 2018, but the number of patients increased to 121 this year.

Rupandehi reported 129 scrub typhus cases followed by Dhading (104), Dadeldhura (91), Palpa (84) Kailali (69) and Chitwan (67) this year.

A total of 1,271 people have tested positive for scrub typhus in 63 districts of the country between July 17 and November 3.
