DOUGLAS COUNTY, Neb. —
Douglas County is warning residents after a stray kitten was found to be infected with rabies.

The Douglas County Health Department asked the public to take extra precautions around animals that you may not know.

The 10 people who were potentially exposed have started treatment, according to the health department.

There isn't any history available for the kitten, which is believed to have been one to two months old, the department said.

The Douglas County Health Department reported that the kitten tested positive for a raccoon variant of rabies not typically found west of Appalachia...
